Common Mistakes

Selfies or casual photos (instant rejection), vacation photos cropped down, outdated photos (must be recent), poor lighting or low resolution, distracting backgrounds, inappropriate clothing, and excessive retouching. German recruiters are detail-oriented — a bad photo signals carelessness.

The Signature Rule

Another uniquely German requirement: sign and date your CV at the bottom. A handwritten signature shows authenticity. Many Germans use blue ink to distinguish from a printed copy. Include the city and date (e.g., 'München, 28. März 2026') followed by your signature.
